Just as the sun damages your skin, it damages your hair, too. Exposure to the harsh rays of sun in summers makes your hair lose their lustre, colour and strength. So, just as you take care of your skin in summers, you also need to care for your hair too.

Here we discuss some hair care tips to be followed in summers to keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful.

Cleansing

  • Wash your hair daily with mild shampoo. It keeps the scalp clean, removes dirt, sweat and prevents excess oiliness. It is important as people with oily scalp may develop dandruff due to increase in oil secretion and sweating in summers.
  • While washing, it is advised not to scrub the hair too hard, as it may further activate the sebaceous glands aggravating the oiliness on scalp.

Conditioning

  • Using good quality conditioners after every wash would keep the hair moisturized without making them greasy.

Preventing damage from sunrays

  • Whenever possible, you should try to stay indoors between 11am and 3pm. This the time when the sun's rays are the strongest and can have an adverse effect on your skin and hair.
  • If stepping out in the sun, try to cover your hair with a wide brimmed hat or a scarf to avoid damage caused by harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.
  • Just as you use sunscreens on your skin, you can also use the hair care products as gel, hair sprays or serums or conditioners containing UV ray filters that protect your hair from damaging uv Rays.

Oiling or not in summers

  • As scalp is naturally oily in summers, oiling of the hair should usually be avoided in summers if you live in hot and humid places.
  • But, if you reside in areas with dry hot wind or loo which can dry and damage your hair, you can consider oiling of your hair. Here, you can oil your hair from root to tip to prevent damage.

Avoiding heat from external sources

  • Hair dryers or hot iron hair straighteners or any form of heat treatment of hair should be avoided to prevent damage to hair.

Taking care of coloured hair

  • Artificial hair colour is prone to fading on exposure to ultraviolet rays of sun and chlorinated or salty water of swimming pool or ocean.
  • To protect from UV Rays, you should use colour protecting shampoos and conditioners. You should also cover your hair while stepping out in sun as already discussed above.
  • Salty and chlorinated water not only contribute to fading of artificial hair colour but also damage the cuticle and cause drying and split ends in untreated hair. So an important tip while you hop in swimming pool or sea is to dampen your hair or put a layer of leave in conditioner over your hair. This adds an extra layer of protective coating thus dilutes the damaging effect of chlorinated or salty water on already wet hair.

These summer hair care tips will allow you to feel and look confident through the harsh summer months with healthy, shiny hair. If you like this post don't forget to share it with your friends.
